Hand hewn beams would also carry many of the same characteristic as our “old patina” beams. What specifically sets hand hewn beams apart from all other products are the rough axe marks. These axe marks were created more than a hundred years ago by its original owners. Before the availability of saws most beams were squared up by hand, thus the name “hand hewn”. Hand hewn beams were from fallen trees, sized up by timberwrights using (mostly) one tool...an AXE!
